TURNING YOUR APPLES INTO APPLE JUICE
Information by Tony Cartwright
August 2019
Tony has three apple trees on his allotment plot (plot 89 Piggotshill) and last year he solved the problem of what to do with all the apples by getting them made into juice, which is pasteurised, bottled and labelled and lasts for over a year.
Tony has suggested that members view the link:
https://chilternridge.com/apple-juice/juice-from-your-own-apples/
which gives more details, and the contact number for Chiltern Ridge. As the link states, the size of bottles is 750 mL – the same size as a wine bottle. Tony’s three small apple trees provided enough apples last year to produce 32 bottles of apple juice. Members are invited by Tony to view plot 89 on Piggotshill to see the size of his trees.
Chilternridge would be able to advise on the minimum amount of apples needed. Cookers or eaters can be used and Tony’s juice is a blend of the two. If people felt that they didn’t have enough on their own they could link up with someone else.
Tony says that you just drive to their premises, your apples are unloaded into trays which are labelled separately and they juice them, pasteurise the filled bottles and label them with your own design of label. You collect your bottles a few days later and pay. According to Tony the process is painless!
