1945 - 2021
Roger was born in Stevenage in January 1945 and moved to Harpenden when his father, Inspector Gillett took over running Harpenden Police Station. He attended St Albans Grammar School for boys, where I first met him.
For most of his working life he was with IBM at Welwyn, took early retirement and bought a video shop in Hertford. When that closed he worked at C & A in Harpenden and enjoyed shop work and organising. He then progressed to take on the allotment shop, becoming our own ‘Arkwright’
He enjoyed travel, individually and with a group of friends as well as being a member of a luncheon club and up until the time of his stroke had developed a new interest in WW2 tanks and weaponry, building a collection of plastic kits and die cast models. He was an enthusiastic Rugby supporter of both Harpenden RFC and England.
Our condolences to his son Paul and daughter Ruth and their families
Rest in peace dear friend.
Mike Cobley
